Still kondoing … although in between I did manage to despatch one teen off to Murrayfield to watch the rugby with his bestie and his Grandma. Wales V Scotland …… so the singing was all very tuneful
Our wee Smiler is pretty poorly – got a cold brewing and his temperature has been hovering at just under the “straight to hospital” level all day .. so I am glad his brother was occupied elsewhere this afternoon. He is only a teen and …….. well everyone needs a break don’t they? They have Season tickets so when his family couldn’t go – my Mum stepped in and took them instead …. not that she needed much persuasion you understand
The wee red head (minus wee beasties I hope) spend a couple of hours at a double birthday party in Dundee. Two wee lads from his class are seven and the party was at a soft play area attached to a VW dealership of all things. Twelve boys, soft play for 2 hours … one very tired boy after dinner tonight.
BUT ………………… I did manage to lay my hands on wrapping paper, paper scissors, sellotape and birthday cards in seconds today as they all now have a home. Makes a change from haring around the house looking for a roll of sellotape at the last minute I can tell you …. a place for everything .. what do you know … it actually works!!
I wouldn’t say that my house is looking pristine .. I am still plodding on sorting through one category of clutter at a time …. but out of the corner of my eye I keep catching sight of little oasis of order where things are neatly homed. My hope is that by the summer all these little oasis’ will have joined up into one harmonious whole.
I have also realised one thing .. that a lot of surface clutter is caused by not finishing a job up completely. The ironing is not completed when all the ironing is done and the piles are neatly stacked on the table. No its done when all the clothes are returned to their homes along with the iron and the ironing board and the ironing basket.
Once everything is back in place everything is “done” … the job is “finished” and there is a a lot less extraneous clutter to contend with.
It was the same with dinner tonight – “Dinner” is not done when its served up onto the plates on the table .. no dinner is done when the meal has been eaten, dishes have been washed and returned to their homes and the table wiped and chairs pushed in.
It will such a pleasure to go into a clutter free kitchen tomorrow morning because everything was “finished” last night.
Its a small mindshift .. and to be honest I am not sure when it happened but at some point over this last week I began to “finish” each job properly and move on to the next … and its making a huge difference to the level of clutter build up around here.
I find I am “tidying up” as I go now. Of course it is much easier now that things have a designated “home” … so the box of hankies gets picked up as I go past and popped into the cupboard where it can sit till we need them again … the basket of toiletries gets swiped from the bottom of the bath into the airing cupboard as I hang up the kids towels ….. shoes abandoned by a tired party boy get placed in the basket by the front door ( I will be grateful of that come the Monday morning rush and he is not looking for his lost left shoe )
The bits of clutter no longer frustrate the heck out of me .. instead I make a mental not that there is another category to focus on when I get around to it …. and I will … because for the first time I can see the results of this “last every tidy up” … sure there are bits that are still a bit scruffy … but there are other perfectly organised cupboards and drawers that simply make my heart sing.
Best of all … I have spend just £2.00 on this whole project …. how frugal is that for such a big change in our home .. and in fact I have made £18 selling some little bits on facebay.
So what changes have you noticed in your home now that you have started to shift some of the clutter? How is your home feeling now?
