Sorry my friends – this ended up being quite a rant ….. I don’t often lose my head .. this was such an exception I do hope you forgive me XX
Dear Rather Angry Lady,
You may have realised that your comment has been held in moderation for a few days – this was fairly deliberate for a few reasons – not least your rather intemperate language. I did however let it mull for a while just to check that my reaction was not just a “knee jerk” one.
We try to be passionate but not abusive on this little corner of the internet .. and down through the years there have only been a scant handful of people whose comments have had to be deleted.
I really don’t think you are reading the right blog – this is a blog where we help lift one another up when life is trying to squish us down. This is a blog for people taking responsibility for financial mistakes, owning up to them and moving on with grace and humility. This is not (as you seem to assume) a blog for whinging, whining scroungers who believe that the Government owes them a living.
You may feel that the 2015 budget was and excellent one … you appear to be very much in the minority here so I suggest this might not be a place that sits well with your sensibilities. The reality is that many people are going to lose between 5% and 20% of their income and that will be very hard to bear for many of our hard working friends.
You claim that Austerity works – I repeat my challenge to find one .. just one country where a process of austerity has actually worked to turn around an economy. I can tell you now you won’t find one … and no , we are not a “success” … we owe more now than we did at the bottom of the slide of the financial meltdown. Don’t be dazzled by claims of “deficit” reduction – it just means that we have less on the overdraft whilst racking up massive big credit card bills. The issue has not been solved -far from it.
There are alternatives on offer … and these alternatives have been proven in the market … in fact Britain under a Labour Government did it at the end of WW2. The increased debt a little to pay to get the country back on its feet, built the NHS, the National Grid, National Railways, British Gas ….. getting people back into work with decent wages kickstarted the economy. Its about as far from Austerity Economics as you can get.
As for your belief that we think that someone else should pay for it …. I think you are so wide off the mark that it is insulting. Insulting to the disabled who despite not creating the crash are the ones paying for it, insulting to the ill who didn’t engage in the Ponzi scheme that is roulette banking but ended up bailing out the banks, insulting to the families on zero hours contract working all they can and still not making ends meet .. .who not only bailed the bankers out once through their taxes but are now having to pay again. No-one else is paying for anything but us taxpayers … we always have and we always will….. it’s NOT the Governments money .. its OURS!!
I’m very glad that you have the joy of children and grandchildren … they are a blessing to us all. In my country we have taken the decision not to burden our children with tens of thousands of pounds worth of students loans by agreeing to pay for their education through our taxes .. indeed as your country used to … and not that long ago. We believe that all children should rise as far as their talents and hard work can take them – that a skilled workforce is a bonus to our country and we should invest in them instead of crippling them with a poverty ridden childhood and forcing them into debt as the only way out. In exchange we want them to become productive members of society and a contribution to our economy.
The PR Guys have a term for your attitude .. the I’m doing OK so what is the problem one!! they call you the “I’m all right Union Jacks”. Whilst I find the term a little distasteful .. I can see why they use it as a shorthand for people who hold your beliefs. But the step between doing OK and not is not as big as you might think.
Well I sincerely hope that you and your family continue to be OK. I would hate to think that redundancy, illness, disability or simply rising interest rates on their mortgages would ever make them vulnerable to the vagaries of our Government. Rest assured .. give it time .. the safety nets are being dismantled and one day we all may need a safety net and find that there is not one there.
No-one here is looking for a handout…. but I believe that we passionately believe that there are times in live when everyone needs a hand up.
So I humbly suggest that you cease regarding us all as shirkers and scroungers and toddle off and find somewhere else to hang out where people might be more sympathetic to your politics and ideologies.
Here – here we are here to help anyone who is prepared to pull on the BGK’s and get on with it .. and if they can’t get that far at the moment we will support them until they are strong enough to start taking their own baby steps towards a better future…. regardless of their politics, their nationalities or their religion.
Your attitude adds nothing to the conversation …. THAT is why I took great pleasure in deleting your inane burblings. If you want to shame people .. go do it somewhere else!!
My Blog! My Rules! Bye Bye!!
