I resign … there that should catch my boss a good one when he reads the headline
Well .. there has been a lot of it going around today in my wee corner of political geekdom .. Shadow Cabinet Ministers, Scottish Ministers, “official” Ministers with “real portfolios” that they seemed to think meant they had part-time jobs … everyone is chucking their jobs in today .. I am blaming the weather. Well! Actually in the case of the Environment Minister I am literally blaming the weather but you know what I mean?
Its been grey and raining and windy and rainy and dark and ….. and did I mention rainy? FOREVER!! Well, it feels that way anyway ….
So today’s dinner of Reduced to Clear Pork Sausage with chilli, mashed potatoes and peas should have utterly ticked all the boxes when it came to cost (cheap), convenient (fast) and tasty (seriously good quality snags reduced to clear I can tell you!!)
Only it didn’t!!
I (good mammy that I am) came home and cooked the dinner that was on the meal planner anyway – figuring that somewhere along the line the sizzle of sausages would entice my taste buds into playing along – NADA!!
I looked at my plate, my tummy turned over and I served up two plates to the kids and set aside the other one to chill down to be frozen for another day .. hey! I might be sickening for something but a girl has got to look after her budget and that plate could feed someone else on another day you know
So I resorted to averting my eyes from the bread-bin (cos you know that a Mother’s default position is “something on toast”) and rifled through the fridge for something that I was inspired to eat …..
BEETROOT!!! I ask you!!! And before you start hitting the comments with “Are you pregnant?” I can categorically assure you that I am most definitely NOT thank you very glad!!! A good friend of mine is at the moment so I suppose I could claim to be having strange cravings in sympathy with her at a pinch!
Yup! for some reason I wanted cold beetroot salad with a topping of salty feta for dinner …..
So I did – and it hit the spot!!
What spot I have no idea but it tickled my taste buds and satisfied my tummy and I am now feeling pleasantly full if a little surprised that I just ate a vegetable instead of a perfectly respectable sausage for my dinner.
Been a weird kind of day all round……………..and now I feel such a rebel for not sticking to the menu plan LOL
What would you have done? Would you have stuck to your plan or would you have wandered off piste and conjured up something from your stores to eat instead?
