Silky Hands .. not easy when you are the one doing the washing, scrubbing .. gardening ….. Oh Yes – Spring has sprung here at MFin3 HQ and my hands are like brillo pads.
My thinking was of course that the best way to get ingrained dirt out of my hands was to go heavy duty – so dabbed a spot of svarfega on last night and set to work. Sure it cleaned – kind of .. but Oh My!! My hands were so dry and chapped this morning. Definitely NOT silky hands.
Not a technique I can use throughout the summer …. so decided to whip up something a little gentler for my Mummy mitts ….something that I can use that will leave my hands feeling clean and soft .. rather than like a grater.
So shopping from home I found …..
Some soap to get my hands clean, sugar as a scrub for the ingrained stuff and baby oil to leave every thing feel a little more silky hands than scoured.
SILKY HANDS INGREDIENTS
- 2/3 rd cup of sugar
- 1/3 rd cup liquid soap
- 2 tbsp baby oil
Measured out my soap …. I have these stainless steel cup measures which are great for following American baking recipes .. but work just as good when doing something that works on proportions.
If you don’t have s set – the pour a cup from your kitchen two-thirds full of sugar and then pump liquid soap over the top to the brim. As long as you are roughly 2/3 to 1/3 its all good.
I tipped my my sugar into a big bowl and dribbled the baby oil over the top and gave it a quick stir to mix through.
The poured the soup on and swished again .. the sugar doesn’t dissolve down but stays in little granules to give you the scrubby action – just what is needed to get the garden out of my knuckles in the evening.
So when you have it all well mixed up …..
Pour into a jar and pop it next to your kitchen sink … YUP! recycled jar .. the wee one still has a thing for LIDL Chocolate spread and gets an occasional jar as a treat. To salve my conscience I try to reuse the jars as often as I can.
So – to clean your hands – scoop out a finger or two of the liquid and rub it in to your damp hands.
Nicely scrubby without being too harsh … and cos I “shopped from home” totally free to boot. Beats going out and buying something just to do the job doesn’t it ?
Silky hands at no cost .. bargain!!!!
